New shelter for women and children

Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission is celebrating the opening of its new emergency Women and Children’s Shelter, meeting an urgent need for families who make up about one-third of the homeless population in the greater Seattle area.

With homelessness in Seattle reaching record levels, we are committed to serving the most vulnerable members of our community — women and children — to provide a safe and secure haven of hope, which is especially important during the winter season.

Our new 106-bed shelter offers women and their children a haven where they can stabilize and begin to work towards a new life. Please join us in celebrating all that God has done and will do through the Mission, and in our community!

A safe haven for those that need it most

Every new guest of our emergency Women and Children's shelter will be provided with clothing, meals, and a safe place to stay while they start their path to stabilization. Every guest will be assigned a case manager to help them address the barriers that contributed to their homelessness. Each mother and child will have access to mental health services, employment assistance, our Learning and Education Center, our children's program, our chapel, as well as other classes and group sessions. Our prayer for each guest is that they experience the hope and love of Jesus through the holistic care that they will receive at our new emergency Women and Children's shelter.

We're here to help! If you are a single woman or woman with children seeking safe shelter, please reach out to our Referral and Intake team at (206) 501-HELP (4357) or email gethelp@ugm.org.

The path to a new life begins here

"We are rejoicing and praising God for this shelter ... There is nothing like the moment when you know that you no longer have to be homeless."

— Annette Smiley, Women and Children's Shelter Director
“We pray that each person here today and those who follow will find love, hope, and life. Thank you, God, for what you have done, for what you will do, in the coming days, months, and years for our homeless neighbors.”

— Lisa Mauga, Associate VP, Women and Children's Ministry
