Ring's Story
“I felt like I was going to die on the streets.”

Ring

Bringing everything they could carry, Ring and his family flew across the world to make a new life in Seattle. Yet nothing could prepare Ring for the war zone he would find upon his arrival. Or the fight he’d have to face — with everything on the line. About a month after he arrived in his new city, his mother passed away from a lung disease.

“It was devastating. I was shocked. I couldn’t talk about it. I started drinking heavily. I couldn't keep a job.”

Ring and his brothers spent all of their money on alcohol. And they ended up living under the freeway in a homeless camp called the Jungle. “I was depressed and paranoid,” Ring says.

“I felt like I was going to die on the streets.”

But he had a friend he’d met on the street who had got clean and told him about Seattle's Union Gospel Mission. And he began to sense a light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

Ring says, “My year in the recovery program was amazing. It changed me knowing I wasn't the only one struggling.”

“And God opened my eyes and helped me see clearer. I was mad at God. But I realized He’s always been there for me. I have peace. And I’m free — with a good job, and a transformed life,” says Ring.

This is the kind of impact you make when you give today to transform more lives like Ring’s.

The need in the greater Seattle area is extending beyond our ability to keep up without your help. Men, women, and families are finding themselves unable to make ends meet, with no other option but living on the streets.

Your support will also provide a sense of family, a safe refuge, and the opportunity for individuals to discover the possibility of a transformed life!
