Shelter
The Missions Mens Shelter is located in the Pioneer Square area at 318 2nd Ave Ext. South.
The Shelter can sleep up to 209 people on a regular basis. Of this number, 104 are homeless
individuals that are taking part in a residential recovery program. On extremely cold nights,
the chapel doors are opened to sleep an additional 50 people.
Emergency Services
Men who turn to us for safety and to meet basic needs in an emergency are often taking the
first step towards a new life and the Guest Services staff are there to welcome them. Guest
Services offer:
3 meals a day (for both men and women)
Overnight shelter
Showers
Clean clothing
Personal hygiene items
Housing assistance
Employment assistance
One-on-one counseling
Bible studies
Chapel services (for both men and women)
More importantly, men coming through the doors of the shelter find care, compassion and respect.
The staffs goal is to follow Jesus example to love and serve one another. This results in
lives being changed from the inside out.
Long Term Care/Services
For those men who want to pursue a path to recovery and grow in their faith, we offer the
New Creations Program (housed at the Mens shelter), New Vision and
Riverton Place.
New Creations is a recovery program that offers: one-on-one counseling from the New
Creations ministry team using the Genesis Addiction Recovery process; Bible studies; and,
daily responsibilities within the Mission to help men develop life-skills and productive
work habits.

The Martin Career Education
Center is also part of the program, offering men the chance to improve their language and
math skills and earn their
GED. In addition, the men attend outside accountability groups as well as become active participants in the church of their choice. We also encourage and organize outside recreation such as bowling, softball, local sporting
events, concerts, and other fellowship activities for the men.
For men that have graduated from the New Creations Program and would like to prepare for a
career in Christian service, there is Advanced Christian Therapy. In this year-long program,
men participate in Bible courses and are given the chance to take more of a leadership role at the Mens Shelter.
Extended Care Shelter
The 2nd floor of the Mens Shelter is set-aside for Extended Care. This respite program is
for men in need of a place to recover from illness or injury. This unique program provides a
place for both physical and spiritual healing and restoration for the ailing.
Education and Career Opportunities
The Martin Career Education Center (MCEC) is designed to serve the men through career and educational
development. The MCEC is an integral part of the programs at the Mens Shelter. The staff
works to develop basic education programs through tutoring as well as the use of NOVA, a computer
based interactive self-learning curriculum. When necessary, the men are assisted in studying for
and taking the GED. The MCEC also provides men with assistance in setting career goals, attaining them, and developing the character
necessary to excel in their job.
Hispanic Outreach
Buenas Nuevas (translated Good News) is a program for the Hispanic men in our community. Chapel
services, Alcoholics Victorious meetings and one-on-one counseling are made available to these
men in their native language.
